Steve’s artistic inclinations date from his earliest memories. Drawing, painting, building underground forts and tree houses, Steve learned to swing a hammer and build fences, rooms, decks, houses, and the wiring and plumbing to make them civilized.
He tells people that he’d have been an architect if he hadn’t gotten sucked into chemistry by his fascination with pyrotechnics. - - He was quite successful as an artist in school and sublimated his artistic abilities in designing water-storage tanks, greenhouses, garden water features, pruning plants, performing house restorations, designing logos, and illustrating scientific data and concepts.
